They are interconnected by a network of navigable rivers. There are numerous boat hire companies which have pleasure craft to suit all ages and purses. You can hire a boat by the hour, for a day or two, a week or a season. This picture was taken from the top deck of The Southern Comfort mock paddle steamer on a four hour cruise. We sailed on the most perfect of October late afternoons celebrating a family wedding with about 50 friends and family enjoying good food, drink and dancing. We recommend the experience! May - June 2009 Springwatch at Pollywiggle
With BBC filming Springwatch just a few miles away at Pensthorpe, the garden at Pollywiggle also has plenty to offer any nature enthusiast. Each year two little flycatchers return, probably from as far away as Africa, to build their nest in the wisteria to raise their brood. Here the hen is peeping out - beautifully camouflaged - keeping her a nest full of eggs warm. The whole garden is humming with the busy comings and goings of not just many different birds but frogs, bees, butterflies and of course pollywiggles!

Fakenham Market, Farmer's Market and Auction
Visit Fakenham’s Weekly Thursday Market and Auction.This small town offers a vibrant market filled with a multitude of stalls selling fresh local produce, flowers, crafts, clothes, tools, books and bric-a-brac.
Viewing of auction sale items is from 11am – 5pm on Wednesdays. Antiques, household furniture, Art & collectables as well as specialist sales are auctioned.
Fakenham Farmers Market every 4th Thursday in the month.
This has proved to be a popular event for thousands of shoppers who are looking for locally grown, organic and farm-fresh produce. It is situated in the Market Square and runs from 8.30am to 12 noon and usually has around 25 to 35 stalls offering a range of produce, seasonal variations and quality goods.

March 2009 Spring At Last
The few warm, sunny days have suddenly transformed the wintery garden to a blaze of spring purples, yellows and pinks. With the changing of the clocks now there are more daylight hours to observe the busy comings and goings of wildlife -frogspawn grows in the pond, the dawn chorus of birds gets louder and the fight for nesting sites is on. A little chaffinch has started pecking at the bedroom window. He does it each year at this time, catching his own reflection believing it to be a rival!

If you haven't visited the Fakenham Races, then you are missing a great few hours of fun with friends or family!
Even though the weather was cold and a bit damp, the six races on 1st December were anything but a damp squib. With a few hot tips and the race card in hand, I was determined to have a small flutter of no more than a modest fiver during the North Norfolk Tourism Raceday.
After the first nail biting steeplechase, I joined in the cheers as my horse - the favourite, 'Sydney Sling' came in first, boosting my winnings to £30. The afternoon continued with the buzz. For a novice race-goer I was well entertained by the thrills of the six races ..... ensuring my initial fiver's worth was repaid to my purse. Yes there were ups and downs, riders unseated and close finishes which enthralled the good-natured, excited crowds. The joy of the day with friends and family was a memorable experience and I'm happy to report I returned home with far more than the £5 I gambled. So if you're about in North Norfolk at race time, give it a try!
